Claims Handling

Claims Team

The key to NORCAL's aggressive approach to claims handling is close collaboration between you, your NORCAL claims investigator and your defense attorney.

Your NORCAL Claims Investigator

During the claims process, you will be paired with a highly trained claims professional dedicated to your area who will guide you through the entire process, help reduce your confusion and anxiety, and prepare you for formal litigation.

Initially, your NORCAL claims investigator will work with you to:
  • Initiate the claim process.

  • Discuss how, in any legal proceeding, your medical records reflect the quality of care you rendered, and how the medical record can be a pivotal factor in successfully defending your lawsuit.

  • Conduct your personal interview, which is the most important part of the claims process as it prepares you for the exhaustive examinations you may face during the formal litigation process.

Your Defense Attorney

At the initiation of formal litigation, NORCAL selects defense counsel. The retained defense attorney is an experienced trial attorney who concentrates on the defense of healthcare provider defendants. The primary responsibility of the attorney is to represent only your interests. All defense counsel are "specialists" in the complicated medical-legal arena.
