Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Course Description

The term "Complex Regional Pain Syndrome" (CRPS) describes two related chronic pain conditions that are somewhat uncommon and that are difficult to diagnose. This podcast will provide risk management strategies related to the diagnosis and treatment of CRPS I, which in recent years has become more prevalent in professional liability claims against physicians.

Target Audience

This course is intended for all healthcare providers who manage pain patients.

Educational Objectives

By listening to a case synopsis of a closed malpractice claim and implementing the risk management strategies presented, this educational activity will support your ability to:
  • Maintain a high index of suspicion for CRPS with the goal of early diagnosis, referral and treatment;
  • Apply effective patient education;
  • Implement appropriate informed consent practices;
  • Adopt risk management-based mindset toward supervision of residents and staff.
