Locum Tenens Coverage*
Locum Tenens Coverage is available at no additional cost for a physician who is temporarily substituting for a NORCAL-insured physician or for a health care extender who is temporarily substituting for a NORCAL-insured health care extender when the insured is on vacation, attending a seminar, on maternity leave or needs temporary coverage for another reason. The NORCAL-insured is not permitted to practice medicine while another is serving as his or her substitute.
Physicians and health care extenders requesting this coverage are required to complete the Locum Tenens Application and be approved by NORCAL. If approved, the terms and conditions of the NORCAL insured's coverage (i.e., medical specialty restrictions, limits of liability, etc.) apply to the substituting physician or health care extender and coverage is limited to services rendered on behalf of the policyholder.
If a NORCAL insured will act as a Locum Tenens for another NORCAL insured, then in most instances an endorsement extending the coverage is not needed.
